PETER MAKOSSAH: A MULTIFACETED PROFESSIONAL
BOARD MEMBER
Peter Makossah is an accomplished attorney, independent filmmaker, award-winning journalist, and humanitarian based in Nottingham. He holds a Master’s degree in Law and Legal Practice (LL.M - LPC) and a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) from Nottingham Trent University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies from the same institution. Additionally, he has a BSc in Digital Video and Broadcast Production from De Montfort University in Leicester.
Makossah's extensive education includes a Higher National Diploma in Media Production from the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, a Diploma in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of Malawi, and an Advanced Diploma in Television and Radio Journalism from the International de Formation al’ Audiovisuel in Paris, France.
Before relocating to the UK, Makossah worked as an investigative journalist and Bureau Supervisor for The Nation Publications in Mzuzu, Malawi, and also for Blantyre Newspapers Limited (BNL). He contributed to international media outlets such as BBC, CNN, VOA, France 24, The Guardian, Xinua, The Independent, and Reuters. He also served in the Malawi Police Service's Criminal Investigations Department and as the Deputy National Spokesperson.
Currently, he is the Group Editor-in-Chief for Mojatu Magazines, published in London, Nottingham, Reading, and Derby. He also serves as a legal advisor for the Mojatu Foundation, providing free legal clinics in Nottingham on various areas of law, including immigration, family, employment, business, and property law. Makossah is deeply committed to social justice and human rights, running free legal clinics to aid those in need in Nottingham and surrounding areas.
His philanthropic efforts extend beyond his professional roles, as he is an ardent advocate for social justice and enjoys mentoring young people. Makossah's work at the Mojatu Foundation includes addressing issues such as female genital mutilation, mental health, and domestic violence, showcasing his dedication to community engagement and empowerment.
